The easiest way to get sports day medals in Roorkee is to order a matched gold, silver and bronze set from a local maker who can add your school name and event to every piece. Malhotra's Trophy Emporium in Ram Nagar has made medals, trophies and mementos for schools and colleges since 1984, and we manufacture in house.
This guide is for sports teachers, PT staff and event coordinators. It covers how many medals to order, which finish to choose, what to print, how to pick ribbons, and how to plan your order so nothing arrives late.
Why your sports day medals matter
For most students, a sports day medal is the first award they ever win in front of the whole school. It goes home, gets shown to grandparents, and often stays on a shelf for years. A medal that feels solid, shows the school's name and has the right year on it tells the child their effort was noticed.
Good medals also make the day run smoothly. When every event has the right number of medals, sorted and ready, prize distribution moves quickly and nobody is left waiting while staff search for a missing bronze.
How many medals do you need? A simple counting method
Most shortfalls on sports day come from counting events but forgetting categories. Use this method:
- List every event. Include races, jumps, throws, relays and house events.
- Multiply by age groups and categories. If the 100 m race runs for four age groups, for boys and girls, that is eight separate results.
- Multiply by three positions. Each result needs one gold, one silver and one bronze.
- Count relays separately. A relay team of four needs four medals per position, so twelve medals per relay result.
- Add 5 to 10 percent spares. Ties, late entries and last-minute events always happen.
Worked example: 12 events, each run for 4 age groups, gives 48 results. That is 48 gold, 48 silver and 48 bronze, or 144 medals. Add 10 percent for spares and order about 160. If you also want participation medals for every child, count them as a separate line.
Choosing the right medal finish
Most schools order the classic gold, silver and bronze set so positions are clear from across the ground. A few other choices are worth thinking about:
- Bright or antique finish. Bright finishes photograph well on stage. Antique finishes look more traditional and suit senior or annual sports meets.
- Size. Use a larger medal for finals, senior categories and the overall championship, and a standard size for heats and junior events. We keep 2-inch, 2.5-inch and 3-inch diameter medals in stock at all times.
- Generic or custom front. A generic sports design works for every event. A custom front with your school crest makes the medal feel made for your school.
- Participation medals. A simpler single finish keeps every child included without taking attention away from winners.
You can see the medal designs we make in our medals catalogue.
What to put on your school medals
Keep the wording short so it stays readable. A good format is:
- School name, or its short form
- Event name, such as "Annual Sports Meet"
- Year, such as "2026"
- School logo or crest, if you have one
Send your logo as a clear image or PDF. If your school has two logos, tell us which one goes on the medals so the whole set matches.
Picking ribbons
The ribbon is the first thing people see when a student walks off the stage. Common ribbon choices for school medals include:
- School colours for the whole event, which gives a clean, uniform look.
- House colours for inter-house events, so each house's medals look different.
- Tricolour ribbons for Independence Day or Republic Day sports events.
Check the ribbon length for younger children. A shorter ribbon is more comfortable for primary classes.
Medals for every kind of sports event
Annual sports days are the biggest order of the year, but schools and colleges also need medals for:
- Inter-school and district-level tournaments
- Yoga, chess, carrom and other indoor competitions
- Fun runs, walkathons and marathons
- College sports meets and hostel tournaments
- March-past and drill competitions
If you are also giving trophies to the best house or best athlete, order them together. Because we manufacture in house, your medals, trophies and certificates can share one design. Our certificates are printed to match.
A planning timeline that avoids last-minute panic
- Six weeks before: Fix the list of events, age groups and categories.
- Three to four weeks before: Count medals using the method above. Confirm finishes, wording and ribbon colours.
- One to two weeks before (at the latest): Send your order and logo on WhatsApp. For delivery outside India, order 2 to 3 weeks before.
- A few days before: Receive the medals and sort them into labelled envelopes, one per event and category. Schools anywhere in Uttarakhand get same-day delivery once the order is ready.
- On the day: Keep the spare medals with the prize table, not in the staff room.
The labelled envelope trick alone saves a lot of time during prize distribution.
Why order from a local medal maker
Ordering online often means paying for courier, waiting, and hoping the finish matches the photo. A local maker removes that risk.
- See samples first. Visit the shop in Ram Nagar and hold the medals before you decide.
- Easy changes. If an event is added or a name changes, message us before production.
- One matching set. Medals, trophies, mementos and certificates in one design.
- No transit damage. Your order travels a few kilometres, not across states.

Our awards have been presented at DPS, IIT Roorkee, CSIR–CBRI, NIH, AIIMS Rishikesh, BEG & C Roorkee and Uttarakhand Government events.
