A customized mug in Roorkee is one of the easiest personal gifts to get right: send us a photo, add a name or message, and collect a mug printed just for that person. Malhotra's Trophy Emporium in Ram Nagar prints photo mugs and other personalised gifts, alongside the trophies and mementos we have made since 1984.
This guide covers the best occasions for a printed mug, how to choose a photo that prints well, design ideas, and how to order on WhatsApp.
Why printed mugs make such good gifts
A mug gets used every day. Every morning cup of tea becomes a small reminder of the person who gave it. That is why printed mugs work for almost any relationship, from a best friend to a team of 200 employees.
They are also practical. A mug is easy to wrap, safe to carry, and suits every age group. For people who are hard to buy for, a mug with a favourite family photo rarely misses.
Occasions people order printed mugs for
- Birthdays: a photo collage from years of friendship
- Anniversaries: a wedding photo with the date
- Raksha Bandhan and Bhai Dooj: a sibling photo with a funny line
- Teachers' Day: a class photo with a thank-you message
- School and college farewells: batch photos for every student
- Diwali and New Year gifting: company logo mugs for staff and clients
- Mother's Day and Father's Day: a childhood photo with a short note
- Corporate events: branded mugs for employees, dealers and visitors
How photo mug printing works
Most photo mugs are made with sublimation printing. Your design is printed with special ink, then heat-pressed onto a coated mug. The heat turns the ink into a gas that bonds with the coating, so the image becomes part of the surface rather than a sticker on top. This is why a well-made sublimation mug keeps its colours far longer than a printed label.
We use the same process for other sublimation gift items, including cushions, keychains, photo frames and beer mugs.
Choosing a photo that prints well
The photo makes or breaks a printed mug. Follow these tips:
- Send the original file. Share the photo as a document on WhatsApp, not as a compressed image, so it keeps full quality.
- Avoid screenshots. A screenshot of a social media post loses detail.
- Choose bright, well-lit photos. Dark or blurry photos look darker and softer on a mug.
- Check faces. The people in the photo should be clearly visible and not too small.
- Mind the curve. A mug wraps around, so very wide group photos may need cropping or a collage layout.
If you are unsure, send us a few options and we will tell you which one will print best.
Design ideas for personalised mugs
- Single photo with a name: simple, classic and quick to approve.
- Collage of 3 to 6 photos: ideal for birthdays and anniversaries.
- Photo on one side, message on the other: the person drinking sees the message, while everyone else sees the photo.
- Inside joke or quote: works well for friends and siblings.
- Company logo with a tagline: clean and professional for corporate gifting.
- Date-based designs: a wedding date or "Since 2010" for anniversaries.
Keep text large enough to read across a room, and avoid placing important words where the handle will cover them.
Mug types
We print on several mug styles. Tell us the occasion and we will suggest one that suits it.
Bulk mugs for companies and institutions
For corporate gifting, a branded mug is useful, visible and easy to distribute. Companies in and around Roorkee order logo mugs for:
- Diwali and New Year employee gifts
- Dealer and distributor meets
- Visitor and delegation welcome kits
- Training programmes and conferences
For bulk orders, share your logo file, quantity and event date. We can also match mugs with corporate mementos and printed T-shirts for one consistent look.
Mugs for schools, coaching centres and farewells
Schools and coaching institutes in Roorkee often order printed mugs as farewell gifts. Each student receives a mug with the batch photo, their name and the year, while teachers get a mug with a thank-you note from the class. These become keepsakes long after exams are over. If you are planning a farewell, collect names in one list, choose one batch photo, and order early so every mug is checked before the event. Pair them with matching certificates or small mementos for a complete farewell set.
Caring for a printed mug
To keep the print bright for longer:
- Hand washing with a soft sponge is gentlest on the print.
- Avoid scouring pads and harsh scrubbers on the printed area.
Gift sets that combine mugs and mementos
For special occasions, a mug works well as part of a set. A retiring colleague might receive a farewell memento alongside a mug printed with a team photo. A school topper might get a trophy and a personalised mug. Ask us to design both together so they share the same colours and message.
